The Lake Art, located on a lush green space, was once a small coffee shop. Today, it stands as a symbol of international cultural exchange, presenting an innovative and permanent visual experience. The design's uniqueness lies in its ability to combine people's life and world art, thereby stimulating the vitality of urban art creation.
Yao's design is a blend of tense materials and forms, shaped through combination and fission to create a depth of space that focuses on people's visual points. It seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor, past and future, China and the world, offering a unique perspective on architectural design.
Covering a total of 600 square meters, the gallery stands as a recognizable stone sculpture on the lawn, complementing the natural scenery. Its facade identity is a testament to Yao's innovative approach to design, making the building stand out amidst the beautiful landscape.
The project started in September 2019 and was completed in January 2020. It was a challenge to design a building that not only responded to the climate characteristics but also represented the public's expectation for the future. Despite the dense plum rain and humid climate in Chengdu, Yao managed to create a waterproof ceiling above the building, interpreting the geometric modern design vocabulary of "clouds".
The Lake Art was awarded Silver in A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021. This prestigious accolade is rewarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The award is a testament to Yao's remarkable level of excellence and his ability to introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder through his designs.
